As you may already be aware, most states have adopted the International Residential Code (IRC) and the International Energy Conservation Code (IECC). The 2006 codes are currently being enforced in most municipalities, while many others are in the process of adopting the new 2009 codes. Kipp Flores strives to keep abreast of the building code requirements you face. Below are a few of the code areas affected:
- Floorplan: Bathroom fixture clearances changed, tempered glass requirements eased
- General: Span charts and header charts updated, attic clearances, stud spacing
- Site: fire-rated overhangs and exterior walls at side yards, accessory building separations relaxed
- Electrical: carbon monoxide detector locations, clothes closet lighting locations, arc-fault locations
As your local jurisdictional amendments may vary, please contact us directly for specific questions or feedback. Additional information on these and other codes is available through the International Code Council at www.iccsafe.org.
